This fall, students can get their portfolio ready by taking part in our dual preparation workshops. Participants will enjoy fun, practical, and informative sessions with our team of industry professionals. Get a head start on a successful application – portfolio submissions are just around the corner!

Workshop #1: Behind the Lens

Ever wonder how to best capture or showcase those design pieces you are so proud of? We are excited to announce that Gabriel Li, a Toronto designer who leads a successful photography company will be sharing his portfolio expertise with students! Gabriel is passionate about capturing the life in our cities and the portrait experiences that culture within it. He has a big heart for student mentorship.

  • Discover easy techniques that help sharpen and refine images for 2D and 3D portfolio cataloguing and product photography
  • Learn about post-production effects
  • Watch and hear Gabriel showcase his own inspirations, his work and his “behind-the-scenes” experience in the photography industry
  • See how art and design mediums  can translate differently through a camera lens
  • Engage in fun photography exercises that will help develop the inner designer

Equipment required: A simple point-and-shoot camera.  Digital SLR not necessary.

Workshop #2: Portfolio Review with a Designer

Got a portfolio? Bring it. Let’s talk about it.

Students will have the opportunity to present their portfolios to a multitude of energetic and well-seasoned designers and educators. Whether you are applying for graphic design, architecture or industrial design, mentors will sit down one-on-one with students to provide critical feedback. This workshop is a great way to:

  • Deepen the scope of your portfolio application
  • Practice presenting your work
  • Reduce application anxiety
  • Engage with like-minded peers
  • Apply skills learned from workshop #1 and present the work for review

Students will show their portfolio to at least 2 designers (architects, graphic designers and an industrial designer) and/or educators. Register early to ensure that you get a time slot.

Drop-ins are accepted on a first come, first served basis. (not recommended)
